It’s based on the visionary efforts of Ceren Öztulca during her engineering education. In her third year, she embarked on her entrepreneurial journey with the ‘Eco-mat’ project and gained support from the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Ceren begins to explore creative ways to tackle societal issues, including gender discrimination.
Discovering that recycling becomes most beneficial when it turns into a habitual behavior for consumers, Ceren developed a creative, eco-friendly solution by designing a structure where every stage of the recycling process is properly organized. Thus, Eco-Mat was designed to both create an elegant user experience and serve as a marketplace for used materials.
For an effective market to form, the machine needed to collect, identify, reliably sort, compress, and store the waste materials in a manner compatible with the standards of recycling facilities. Additionally, the interior of the device needed to be adjustable and modular for different programs conducted in various municipalities and inspection areas. While the number of chambers was left as a modular variable, each chamber’s volume was equipped with tools necessary to characterize materials based on their electromagnetic, optical, and chemical properties.
Specializing in robotics during her education, Ceren culminated her talents in the creation of the award-winning “Eco-Dolphin” surface-cleaning robot and won Robotics Olympiad awards from 2010 to 2013. The success of her career would later underscore ROOT’s foundation, emphasizing innovation and promoting positive societal impact.
The happiness and peace we feel when we spend time in nature or experience its magnificent balance can be shattered by a single piece of plastic waste. To prevent this, it is necessary to develop creative solutions with the help of technology and instill environmental awareness even more.
Taking a step beyond individual contributions to protecting the environment, Ceren set out to raise environmental awareness among children and adults and help actively protect the environment by designing Eco-Dolphin, an autonomous robot that cleans the sea surface. With the help of this robot, she aimed to clean up accumulated plastic bottles, tin cans, and oil waste from shipyards, marinas, and coastal areas.
With its humble beginnings, ROOT advanced Ceren’s vision of blending technological innovations with social responsibility. This story reflects ROOT’s ongoing commitment to creating transformative solutions and shaping a better future for everyone.
